Town lattice truss 104' 4" over the Delaware Canal at Lock Number 8.
Located: On Uhlerstown Hill Road, Uhlerstown, Tinicum Township, Pennsylvania.
Directions: In Uhlerstown, Pennsylvania, at the jct. of River Road
(SR 32) and Uhlerstown Hill Road, go west on Uhlerstown Hill Road for 0.4
mile to the bridge. Access to the Canal Tow Path that passes under
the bridge is available from Tinicum Park, between Erwinna and Uhlerstown,
Pennsylvania or from the Delaware Canal Park Office, below Upper Black
Eddy. Distance to the bridge from Tinicum Park parking area is approximately
1.5 to 1.75 miles. Distance to the bridge from the Park Office parking
area is approximately 2 miles. It was named for Michael Uhler, who
owned a canal boat building yard near the bridge. The structure rests
on stone and mortar abutments, reinforced with concrete, and has stone
and mortar wing walls capped with concrete. It has barn red painted
vertical boarding on both the sides and portals. The lower half of
the portals and wide vertical splash panels are painted white. There
is one opposing narrow horizontal window in the center on each side with
a small awning-type roof over the opening. The portal has a angular
opening. The deck consists of crosswise planking and it has a shake
roof. Also known as the
Delaware Canal Covered Bridge.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 26, 1994.
