South Perkasie Covered Bridge
Bucks County, Pennsylvania
(WGN 38-09-05) (WGCB PA-09-05):  (1832; relocated and rebuilt 1959)  A single-span Town lattice truss 93' on dry land.  Located:  In Lenape Park, Perkasie, Pennsylvania.  Directions:  The entrance to Lenape Park is in the southern part of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, on West Walnut Street. The bridge is just to the left of the park drive as you enter the park. Moved there in 1958 and closed to motor traffic.  The bridge is the oldest remaining covered bridge in Bucks County.  It was moved to its present location, rebuilt and rededicated August 15, 1959.  It has an original sign over the portal that indicates:  “$ 5 FINE FOR ANY PERSON RIDING OR DRIVING OVER THE BRIDGE FASTER THAN A WALK OR SMOKING SEGARS ON.”  The bridge is open to foot traffic only.  The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments, and has stone and mortar wing walls.  It has barn red painted vertical boarding on the sides. The portals feature a angled opening with horizontal boarding on the upper half and vertical boarding on the lower half.  The tops of the portals are trimmed in white and the vertical splash panels are unpainted.  The deck consists of wide lengthwise planking and it has a shake roof.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1980.  (Jun 2008)
